The purpose of different exercises is for the actors to be able to enhance their ability in isolating different parts of their body. An actor is able to, regardless of all tensions, move independently from words, the same thing that happens in everyday life.In Garage Theater, the actor designs and creates his role in the span of one year. One of the tasks of a Garage Theater actor, as a diligent person, is creating a clear, developable, and eternal thing called “precise”. Hence, Garage Theater performances are the product of the pieces that have been created and worked on in one year of practice.
Furthermore, in every period, Garage research team carries out studies, researches, and translations in the field of a certain method/principle in acting and as a result of this work a training course for that certain method is prepared. Eventually, Garage actors develop that method and create their own personal way and style for training.
The followings are among the methods and principles that have been developed and worked upon by Garage:
Meyerhold’s Theatrical Biomechanics, Etienne Decroux’s Corporeal Mime, Ariane Mnouchkine’s Collective text, Grotowski’s Self-expression, Eugenio Barba’s Pre-expressive principles, Kazuo Ohno’s Butoh, Chi Kung, live art (performance art).
